In Something From Nothing , the lovely blanket that Grandpa made for Joseph has begun to wear thin. But all he has to do is bring it back to Grandpa, who knows there`s always just enough fabric to turn it into something else. First it becomes a jacket, then when that wears out, a vest. When there`s only a tiny scrap of cloth left, he uses it to cover a button. Joseph is sad when he loses the button, but then he realizes that he has just enough of the old blanket left to make one more thing... a story! This story follows the changes in a blanket as it becomes a jacket,vest,tie,hankerchief, and finally a button as the littleboy grows older. Also look closely at the bottom of the pages and you will see that nothing is wasted from these special gifts. 3. Something from Nothing Reviewer: Jennifer from Alberta Date: 9/21/1999 9:45:07 AM An enchanting story adapted from a Jewish folktale. Joseph’s grandfather made him a blanket when he was a baby. As Joseph grew older, the blanket became torn, so his grandfather created a jacket from the material. Later, the jacket is altered to become a vest, a tie, a handkerchief and finally a button. But when the button is lost, how will the grandfather create something from nothing? The illustrations in this story are wonderful. My favourite part is the sub-story within the illustrations, of the mice that use the scraps from Joseph's blanket to create more and more items for their own home.
